Drink responsibly

  

Just before the ban on cigarette advert in the country, the footnote/voice-over was;

“The Federal Ministry of Health, warns that, smokers, are liable to die young”

That sounds scary enough for anyone  not to smoke, even though it never stopped defiant children from wanting to taste death despite living still.

Adverts for alcoholic drinks aren’t any different. Usually after all those classy display of handsome dudes and sexy models comes;

“Not suitable for persons under 18, drink responsibly”

My point exactly!

 Globally, those below 18 years are described as minors, mini persons not adult enough to make major life decisions. They are not even allowed to vote, so no surprises that alcohols are not meant to be consumed by them.

But for an adult, I am still in awe of how someone finds it difficult to know the limit of alcohol consumption that births instant insanity from them.

The rate at which alcohol gulped automatically remodels a complete introvert to a weird extrovert, with standard senses reduced to ounces makes me wonder what the components were.

Some people would drink and begin to vomit and get so vulnerable. Others adopt violence, gets indecent and out rightly dirty. A particular mien common to drunkards is becoming a total chatterbox spewing nonsense.

I have a friend who is known to be very secretive about his adventures, but one day after a terrific party where he drank heavily, he began to expose what he ordinarily would have kept a secret. An action he became very uncomfortable with afterwards.

I pity the females more. Many had been raped in their once upon a time drunken state.

The damage done to the gait of an average drunk is another issue, paralytic style of walking that makes them stagger and most times suffer a great fall. No wonder Klint-de-drunk (a foremost Nigerian Comedian) became a household name for birthing a comedy signature from it.

For others, their senses literally fly out of a rear exit and a lanky adult previously standing at six feet gets to be guided home

Many are dead, just because they drove after they were drunk.

It is that bad.

 Kudos however to those who act maturely even when they drink to stupor.

For them;

·         Mien?  Checked.

·         Gait?  Double-checked.

·          Talking bunkum?  Checked

.           Senses?  Very much intact.

Now, what else?

I’d been asked several times why I do not drink despite being an extrovert and extremely outgoing. I chose not to because it is capable of making a mockery of the sanity of a previously sane person. Period!

Besides, I naturally like taking responsibility for my actions whether good or bad, it doesn’t make any sense when I am made to suffer for my actions while under alcoholic suppression. 

And to those who reiterate that alcohol makes them forget their sorrows, just know this; Hangover would wake you the next morning into the warm embrace of your sorrow gladly seated by your bedside.

My candid advice however; People should drink with moderation when at a public outing especially.

Leave the state of being drunk till you get to the safety of your home, preferably at your private bar when folks are readily available to clean your mess. Not when passer-by have to carry you like a cadaver, so bad you saunter into your abode and slump to the floor totally lifeless.

So next time you hold a bottle that has the bold inscription DRINK RESPONSIBLY, it isn’t just a label, it clearly means;
  
The society requires, that you should be responsible, even when you drink.
