Every fetus deserves to live.

Today is Children’s day in Nigeria, May 27th and a National public holiday for kids to be celebrated. But how about we ponder on my caption, that every ‘fetal’ should be availed the opportunity, to taste life, and fulfill their destiny.

Many thanks to science that brought this knowledge to us all. An average male will produce roughly 525 billion sperm cells over a life time. When in fact, the present world population is just a ‘paltry’ seven billion. A healthy adult male can release between 40 million and 1.2 billion sperm cells in a single ejaculation. Which means,if all things had been equal, a single man would have been able to reproduce the entire world population in just seven ejaculations.

Reminiscing about my biology lessons way back in high school with the help of trakfertility.com; Sperms (being the genesis according to God’s mapped out plan for conception) are constantly in danger. Inside the testicle, it takes a sperm about seventy two days to go from a germ cell, to a fully matured sperm cell capable of fertilizing an egg. During that time, it needs proper nutrition and temperature to develop normally .Like tiny engines; mature sperm cells produce a form of ‘exhaust’ known as Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) that can damage the cell membranes. After about a week in the epididymis, sperm cells that haven’t been ejaculated begin to die.

For the ‘lucky’ cells that make it into the female’s body, it’s a whole new world of danger. Vaginal walls tend to be acidic, to protect women from potential infections. During the fertile window, the female creates a sperm friendly fluid that enables sperm to swim up towards the egg. Sperms are not that smart. Many of them get lost in the cervix. The ones that make it to the uterus are ‘greeted’ by white blood cells that see the sperm as invaders, and attack them. These sperm swim like crazy to try to find the Fallopian tube while avoiding white cells. Finding the fallopian tube is like finding a needle in a haystack. Hence the millions of sperms released upon ejaculation, only a handful makes it to the fallopian tube where the egg is released. There, the sperm must survive long again if it is to fertilize an egg. Eventually, only ONE makes it to the final stage to become a fetus.

Now you know that real hustle began from conception. And when it eventually happens, someone then terminates it under the guise of ‘it’ being ‘unwanted’. Isn’t that a slap on Mother Nature after that tedious process? No child is unwanted because it came about as a result of two adults that copulated. Some did consented, others may not (like those that were raped and assaulted sexually).

But hey! There is a reason why that had happened to you, so keep it. Children are God’s heritage, and once here, they are the pride of the oldies. Armed with every formed life, is a clearly distinctive destiny, which is capable of saving the world. Consider this; If,
·

  •            Mark Zuckerberg who invented facebook, which brought the world to a single platform.
  • ·  Cai Lun (A Chinese man who invented the production of modern day paper)
  • ·         Leornardo Da Vinci (Italian Artist/Scientist who invented huge rage of Machines)
  • ·         Isaac Newton (English Scientist who invented the reflecting telescope)
  • ·         William Cullen (Scottish Physician who invented artificial refrigerator)
  • ·         James Watt (Invented steam engines suitable for use in trains)
  • ·         Alessandro Volta (Italian physicist who invented batteries)

Michael Faraday (electricity), Williams Henry Fox (photography), Karl Benz (developed petrol powered car-Benz), Alexander Bell (telephone), had all been aborted by their respective mothers. Not even for health challenges. Saving a fresh entrance into the world is worth the risk.

On the local scenery, who could have thought Comedy, would become a ‘goldmine’ and even a full time profession, in a country like Nigeria for that matter. Many thanks to Alli Baba’s mother for not terminating him. Nigerian dancing sensation, Kafayat Shafau (Kaffy) is the reason why I lament on a daily basis about my poor dancing skills. Agbani Darego was the first black African to wear the coveted Miss world crown.(pageantry). Oluchi Onweagba took Nigeria to the world in modeling. Linda Ikeji’s contribution to blogging in Nigeria is worthy of emulation. Who doesn’t want an apartment in Banana Island? And then my very own role models in writing, Wole Soyinka and Chimamanda Adichie, the list is actually endless.

Consider the present world without these pace setters from various fields. The world wouldn’t have known about the skills, specialty and expertise they brought along with their destinies.

By the way, a certain seventeen year old teenager got pregnant, and subsequently refused all entreaties to abort the fetus, the child today is known as Justin Bieber. Pregnant? for whatever reason, please keep that fetus and let him/her be here to partake in the Children’s day celebrations next year.

Every fetus deserves to live and taste life so as to fulfill their destinies. Don’t forget, the world is waiting on that ‘one person’ who would bring the cure to AIDS, and the various types of Cancers as well as other life threatening ailments that seem to have no cure. Who that person is? We never can tell.

 Happy Children’s day Nigeria.
