Manners cost nothing

Image
I really do not know if I should consider the following my personal pet peeves, but then I know that they are manners that count. Besides, a strict adherence to them shows that one isn’t ill mannered as well. 1.        Knocking before entering people’s houses and/or rooms, not barging in: This is not just an assumption, people do it. Regardless of your level of closeness to anyone, as long as you are not a cop that is trying to catch a criminal unaware, common sense dictates that you knock before you enter. I have heard complaints from men/women alike that the siblings of their spouses just barges into their rooms, only to find them both naked. Need anyone to point out this again as impolite? 2.        Respect the privacy of others and their space: Similar to the one above, that is not too much to ask though. 3.        Do not overstay your welcome in people’s houses/lives; Alway...

Drink responsibly

Just before the ban on cigarette advert in the country, the footnote/voice-over was; “The Federal Ministry of Health, warns that, smokers, are liable to die young” That sounds scary enough for anyone  not to smoke, even though it never stopped defiant children from wanting to taste death despite living still. Adverts for alcoholic drinks aren’t any different. Usually after all those classy display of handsome dudes and sexy models comes; “Not suitable for persons under 18, drink responsibly” My point exactly!   Globally, those below 18 years  are described as minors, mini persons not adult enough to make major life decisions. They are not even allowed to vote, so no surprises that alcohols are not meant to be consumed by them. But for an adult, I am still in awe of how someone finds it difficult to know the limit of alcohol consumption that births instant insanity from them. The rate at which alcohol gulped automatically remodels a com...

My take on Fulani herdsmen

Sometimes in June, the internet was filled with news of killings purposefully perpetrated by the Fulani herdsmen in Plateau state. Today, opinions, planned actions on how to forestall a similar thing from happening seem to have subsided. And like we always do in Nigeria , other news (mostly irrelevant to the lives of the people) has actually occupied us. For the sake of non-Nigerians by the way, Fulani is a tribe from the Northern part of the country who are not just nomadic in nature, but predominantly rears cattle for a living. People of obscure origin who abides not only in Nigeria  but also in other countries like Niger, Mali, Mauritania, Senegal, Guinea, Burkina faso, Ghana, Benin, Cote d e voire and Cameroon. On the caption list of ‘Information Nigeria’s web page however , you’ll be amazed at the long list of news on Fulani-related killings like; ·          Ondo police arrests armed Fulani herdsmen.     ...

Why I chose to watch football from a distance

Present situation. Russia 2018 World cup  has come and gone and my country Nigeria did not make it to the knock out stage of the competition. A hearty congratulation to France, the reigning world champion. The  Super Eagle’s  first match with  Croatia  ended in favor of the latter. This threw Nigerian football lovers into a  pensive  mood for some days. The  frenzy  however returned as soon as  Ahmed Musa  scored the two goals that gave us the lead over  Iceland . But like a  temporal h appiness of sort,  the Nigerian team was sent parking by the star studded  Argentines,  and that clearly marked the end of our  2018  world cup ambition. The reaction of Nigerians to our loss Th ere was mourning of sort; In fact,  Mikel Obi  had to fight back tears in one of the interviews he granted soon after the match. Another funny scene was the fact that  pained N igeria...

COMMON ANTI-SOCIAL HABITS THAT SUCKS

Why on earth, would anybody publicly prick their nostrils with a naked finger and subsequently catapult into the air? How is that even fun? No thanks to the weather which is oftentimes on higher degrees? Everyone on the street seems to be sweating .Others quite profusely. A neat handkerchief is supposed to be handy for majority (who cares if yours was dirty by the way). The unruly on the other hand, simply wipe sweat with bare hands, splash to space, not bothered about the surface on which it lands. For crying out loud, this could be the face of the next person, skin, or gaped mouth (yuck!).   And is that not selfishness? It should please stop. Irritably it is, when someone talks with a mouth filled with chewed food. The mixture of that food and your spittle, looks slimy sort of. It clearly irritates the onlooker. Does it really cost so much to be considerate? #Eyes rolling# Eating as you walk along the road is not just ideal. But in as much as I do not rea...

LESSONS FROM HARRY AND MEGHAN

WHAT PRINCE HARRY AND MEGHAN  TAUGHT ME - BISHOP TD JAKES Lessons on love from Prince Harry's engagement to Meghan Markle         I am absolutely thrilled about Prince Harry’s engagement to Meghan Markle. I’ve read articles about the engagement and watched the interviews and smiled. One reason I’m excited is that both Meghan and I graduated from Northwestern University. Go Wildcats! But the main reason I’m overjoyed is that I’m a romantic at heart and their love story confirms what I’ve been telling singles for years in seminars and in my book 1st Class Single. If a Man is Interested, He will pursue you! You won’t have to convince him to make a move. He’s a man. He knows what he wants. Prince Harry was asked when did he know Meghan was the one? He answered, “The first time we met.” He began pursuing her. They shared in the BBC interview that they never went more than two weeks without getting together. They were on two different continents! He was a p...

NIGERIAN POLICE AND DUTIES ASCRIBED TO THEM

Ordinarily, if I am to describe the commonest duty of an average Police Officer, from the peripheral of what could be seen, by an average Nigerian like me? Then I would say, they are meant to be at every Bus Stop, collecting tolls from bus conductors, and controlling traffic. They also seem to harass travelers journeying with oversized luggage or trucks with loads, especially the ones that refuses to ‘settle’ . And maybe, to check random Vehicle particulars. What surprises me is that, no matter how legally unruly your case may be, talking about driving with incomplete, or expired vehicle documents or other supposed offences, you are effortlessly left off their hook , as soon as you rub their palms. But in the event of you wanting to display your fluency in English language, they have their delay tactics to make you pay in kind, obviously with your time. I also noticed that citizens with a stint of ‘I know my right kind of craze’ , like Lawyers, Media Personnel, or ...

PARENTS, BRIDGE THE COMMUNICATION GAP

I was spurred to write this, as a result of an occurrence that happened to the niece of a colleague just recently. A final year student in the University, in her early twenties, got pregnant for a young boy who claimed responsibility though. But for reasons best known to her, opted for an abortion, which was carried out by a quack . The fetus was evacuated, yet she never stopped bleeding even after a week. She hadn’t any choice but to confess to her parents who took her to a special hospital for proper attention and then subsequently an operation. Alas, it was discovered that she had triplets, which weren’t properly done by the quack. Her womb now ruptured as a result of the damage done.   What amazes me is that, the mother cried her eyes out and bemoaned that her daughter should have kept the pregnancy instead. The girl was probably scared of how disappointed her mother would have been, if a protruded belly was all she could bring home, even before graduation. Or that her p...

Every fetus deserves to live.

Today is Children’s day in Nigeria, May 27 th and a National public holiday for kids to be celebrated. But how about we ponder on my caption, that every ‘fetal’ should be availed the opportunity, to taste life, and fulfill their destiny.  Many thanks to science that brought this knowledge to us all. An average male will produce roughly 525 billion sperm cells over a life time. When in fact, the present world population is just a ‘paltry’ seven billion. A healthy adult male can release between 40 million and 1.2 billion sperm cells in a single ejaculation. Which means,if all things had been equal, a single man would have been able to reproduce the entire world population in just seven ejaculations. Reminiscing about my biology lessons way back in high school with the help of trakfertility.com; Sperms (being the genesis according to God’s mapped out plan for conception) are constantly in danger. Inside the testicle, it takes a sperm about seventy two days to go from a germ...

Life is not unfair; Races are just different.

There goes this popular saying ‘life is not fair’. But before you think your life as being unfair, kindly bear this in mind, that, all fingers are not equal .   Which explains why the rich could be denied the joy of parenthood, and one termed ‘lowly’ , barely able to afford a daily meal, births a population enough to make a football team. Someone highly waged would pay rent all his days, to one who seemed a nonentity.   Another reason why people think life isn’t fair right? Ever wondered the number of A-list students wandering about unemployed? And the supposed dullards, not only amassing wealth, but became employers of the former. Intelligent students are in fact being employed by school drop-outs. Should I just say this, that the smart ones haven’t actually discovered their lanes, so as to run it differently. Consider this too, that some people got wedded earlier in life, only to have delayed conception (in some cases), spanning into decades for some even. While...
