Note on Sunday; (Seek mercy and your life is with a meaning)
Many times when people praise my efforts having succeeded at
something, same thing others had ventured into but totally unable to birth a reasonable
level of success from, I find it so hard to admit it as my own making. The God-factor I just cannot take away from my dealings.
Working hard and gunning for success are mere effort that is
needed by God to make a successful wish to come to fruition. Just like it is
said that; “heaven helps those who helps themselves”.
Mercy actually takes over from where human
effort stops.
But the crux of the matter as rightly put in; Romans 9;16- “So then not of him that willeth,
not of him that runneth, but of God that showed mercy”
This means that it is insane to attribute success to just
sheer hard work, there’s always a God
factor. So this is to note that, it remains pertinent however and as Children
of God to always seek mercy in all we do alongside physically working towards it.
James 2; 13 says- “Because judgment without mercy
will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment”
Mercy brings about unmerited favor, shine,
success, breakthrough etc. But it only comes to play in the lives of those who
are under the grace to
excel. Not just because
they merited it, neither for their good deeds too, but because God has rightly
said in Romans 9; 15-16;
“15-Or he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on who I will have mercy,
and I will compassion on whom I will have compassion. 16-so then it is not of
him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that showed mercy.
The
efforts of David at catapulting Saul was indeed ‘exaggerated’ by God, to make it look like the prowess of the
former killed Goliath. This geared
the popularity of David over Israel, so much he later ruled the land.
Mercy makes you successfully do what
others might have failed in. It is the reason why you seem to be at the right
place at the right time. It makes
you reap what you earnestly do not deserve. Mercy makes seeming difficult situations becomes easy. One who
obtains mercy enjoys sorrowful heavy
weights being lifted off him. Mercy
makes you take awards in competitions where others performed better than you
did.
Hard work asides, the
fact remains that not every human gets to be rewarded in life. Reiterating the
fact that mercy only complements
hard work that existed prior.
To seek mercy
first of all is to remain humble and to ceaselessly pray to God for it, while
working very hard too. But as soon as you become Mercified, take glory not in thy own understanding, but give honor to whom honor
is due.
And that honorable one is
God.
