Antidote to body shaming

Body shaming according to google’s definition;

            “The action or practice of humiliating someone, by making mocking or critical comments about their body shape or size”

I read loads of article available about body-shaming, and on those I could lay my hands on, non made much emphasizes on the antidote.

Most of the points therein however was directed towards cautioning and educating the public on the topic. Oher write ups advised victims to stay confident, like it was one easy thing to do in the face of unending shaming.

Truth be told, as long as some people remains alien to how badly the shoe of body shaming pinches their victims, the jest, boos, shaming etc,  they'd never stop. So there's a need for the antidote as I've rightly put to fore in this article.

Well as weird as the antidote might sound however: the Law of an eye for an eye otherwise called the law of retaliation is it.

            You call me fat with terrible folds, I take it out on your distorted dentition or bulgy fore-head.

          Talking about giving it back to a troll same way the tantrum was thrown.

I mean, why should I be depressed over being body shamed, while the troll is left unabashed?

     No one is actually created perfectly, and even with the aid of a cosmetic surgery, there’s possibility of a relapse. An attestation to the fact that we a
ll are unarguably inadequate regardless.

 You could be slim, curvy and beautiful, but inadvertently dumb. How come nobody sees dumbness as a disability?
A seeming unattractive human with a higher level of intelligence should relish in this and not dwell much on the physical attractiveness of the former, we even now?

Unknown to 'shammers' however, the resultant effect of body shaming on victims includes;
feelings of being inadequate, thereby having to seek validation from others to feel ‘whole’,
Falling into depression hence attempting suicide as a result of inferiority complex etc.

Need more reasons to see why this isn’t just fun?

Now, let me relieve my experience with body shaming;

High school days; I, alongside my classmates were beginning to get conscious of changes in our bodies. I still remember the signs of puberty in my biology lessons
Hair grows on the skin, armpit, and then the mention of the word ‘pubic-area’ often makes us chuckle.Lol.

Boy’s voice deepens, hair sprouts on the chin as beards, Breast spots for girls etc.

I actually attended a High School for girls, which was why the competition for the most perfect girl was rife.
 Meanwhile, I was this tiny little girl with an ‘unfavorable’ height, simply put, short. Big eyeballs, near-horrible cheek bones, and the fact that ‘breast-sprouts’for me weren’t as expected made me a target for trolling.

 “Tiny girl, big eye balls” they would gladly call me across the class, while they all laughedA classmate even labeled me “omo Bola Tinubu” (She had likened my eyeballs to that of the erstwhile Governor of Lagos State, hence labeling him his daughter),
“bony faced (referring to my cheekbones)
“short girl etc”, were some other unfriendly comments that I got.

Then I began to emaciate and fell into what I later knew was called depression. I would brood over this so much that everything stopped being interesting. Until one day that I eavesdrop on some classmates referencing my curves to what they would have preferred.
 Me?, Really?

And the fact that they were my trolls was a boost for whatever level of confidence that remained in me.

So all the while I was getting bothered with the snail-speed growth of the mammary, the bums were actually getting rounded, waist caving in, hence a fuller figure?

 Truth is, they knew this too, but only made me felt bad by reflecting more on what I lacked over what I truly possessed.
This still gives me confidence, even as I write this though, lol.
            Breakthrough came the day I decided to look at my trolls from their head to toe for a birth ‘default’ too, just to get back at them. Yet, there goes flaws like knock-legs, scaly skin, flat bums, widened nose, rabbit ears, horrible lips, distorted teeth, long necks, big lips etc.

 With this discovery, I nailed their inadequacies to their faces too, and they were more angry than dazed. How  about we all remained stupid?

For me, that worked. And till today,  if there’s anyone that could successfully make me feel bad for anything about ME,that should be ME.

I bet cosmetic surgery came about ,as a result of people feeling inadequate, just because they'd been body shamed. There's a probability that these people might ordinarily not have been bothered about how they looked, until someone reminds them. So everybody wants to ‘wear’ a flawless appearance, near perfect look, with a wow effect, just so they could escape being shamed for defects in their bodies.
Pathetic.

A fact we all should  one know is that,  non is created perfectly, nor naturally have it all in looks. This is an individuality which remains unique. With this we are uniform

On the other hand, our general person applies to our behavior and intellect too, not just appearances.

 So the next time you get shamed, trust me it is not enough reason to fall into depression out of all the ‘whys’ in the world. Just go ahead and nail the inadequacy of the troll too.

No feeling that mutual.

And to those who think body shaming is what could birth a topic for jokes, you may need to have a re-think, it is not. If people have gotten deficiency in looks, don’t remind them of it.
